The railroads are a major component of North America’s economy, transporting billions of dollars of coal, steel, grain and other goods every year. At any moment, day or night, countless trains are delivering raw materials and finished products across an intricate network of tracks that covers 140,000 miles across the United States, Mexico and Canada. But how can railroads ensure that this complex system of tracks, bridges, switches and facilities is always in good condition and safe for use? How do they respond to derailments or natural disasters?
Railroads have recognized that it is more effective from a cost and performance basis to network with qualified railroad contractors for the maintenance of their railroad and facility properties.Railroad contractors are uniquely equipped and qualified to help maintain the right of way or respond to railroad emergencies.
Since the 1960s, Hulcher Services has redefined the role of the railroad contractor with innovations, international coverage and service offerings previously unknown to the industry. While the company is renowned for its around-the-clock train derailment response, Hulcher performs thousands of other projects each year, ranging from load transfers to environmental services to major track maintenance and renovations. When natural disasters strike, railroads rely on Hulcher’s massive fleet of heavy equipment and hundreds of trained and certified employees to mobilize and restore their networks to full operation.
For many in the railroad industry, the name Hulcher MEANS trust, confidence and assurance in disaster response and railroad services.
As a railroad contractor with over 40 years of experience, Hulcher brings its expertise to the Railroads on a wide variety of services. We invite you to visit the following pages to see the dozens of services Hulcher provides in support of the railroads:
Class I Railroads rely on Hulcher's experienced crews to extend their maintenance resources during peak periods. Our divisions are strategically positioned and fully staffed, allowing the Class I Railroads to reduce the amount of emergency response equipment and workers they need to employ and improving how quickly their derailments can be responded to.
Hulcher's railroad contractor professionals are trained, experienced and certified to work for all Class I Railroads. We are bonded and insured in all 50 states; our liability insurance policies expressly delete the usual exclusion for work within 25 or 50 feet of railroads, and include the statement "any work within 50 feet of a railroad is included."
Shortline and regional railroads have a tough job. They have smaller areas to maintain but they don't have ability to staff their own maintenance crews or maintain all the support equipment as the Class Is do.
Hulcher brings a Class I level of service to shortlines and regional railroads, providing a full array of track maintenance, transfer, derailment and disaster response services whether your railroad covers 10,000 miles or 10 miles. Hulcher also has established service agreements with individual railroads and holding companies as well.
Hulcher equipment and crews can deploy within one hour of your call, any time day or night. Our 24/7/365 call center and 35 strategically-positioned divisions ensure that we can respond to wherever you need us.
