Hulcher Performs Switch Change on #20 Switch on Double Main

Scope:
The railroad needed to change a #20 switch as part of their routine track maintenance program. The switch was on a double main, so the project had to be completed within very tight track windows.
Solution:
Hulcher utilized four 583 Caterpillar sidebooms to place the new switch. The project was broken into two-phases in order to complete the job in the tight track window provided by the railroad.

Project management and timing were crucial for this project. The railroad provided a small three-hour window to complete the removal of the old switch and installation of the new one.

Working in close coordination with the railroad crews, the sidebooms lifted out the old pieces of track then the graders and a wheel loader cleaned out the existing ballast to create a clean, smooth surface so the new #20 switch could be installed.
Outcome:
The two-phase plan to deliver then complete the pre-work before the installation was an effective solution for the railroad. Hulcher's work plan allowed the railroad to complete their maintenance-of-way (MOW) project with minimal interruption of their operating schedule.
