New Railroad Crossing Improves Comfort & Safety for Local Commuters
Scope:
A chronic problem for one Midwestern community was the old and worn-out railroad crossing in the center of town. The ride over the tracks was always a bumpy one and extremely hard on the vehicles that crossed it on a daily basis.
Solution:
To complete the railroad crossing construction, Hulcher used a combination of Caterpillar® equipment that included a 325 excavator, 966 wheel loader and D5 dozer. To make the most efficient use of the allotted “track time” Hulcher crews staged material and equipment prior to the “official” project start date.
View of the approach road for the railroad crossing construction project. Over the course of three days, work crews spread 160 tons of stone, removed the existing panel, graded the site, installed 80 feet of new track panel and laid new asphalt. During the project Hulcher crews also graded out a parking lot near the crossing.
Outcome:
Local commuters now enjoy improved safety and a consistent, smooth ride over the tracks at this busy railroad crossing. The broken and uneven asphalt has been replaced with a smooth, even road that reduces wear on cars and trucks. The railroad was also pleased with the new crossing - the project was completed on time and within budget.
Hulcher Performs Switch Change on #20 Switch on Double Main
The railroad needed to change a #20 switch as part of their routine track maintenance program. The switch was on a double main, so the project had to be completed within very tight track windows.
Hulcher Clears Fire Damage For Bridge Repair, Performs Driftwood Removal From Bridge Piers
A fire on driftwood resulted in a bridge repair project for the railroad. During this work it became apparent that the driftwood was causing more concerns than just a fire threat.
Railroad Relies On Hulcher For #15 Switch Change At Rail Yard
A #15 switch at the rail yard had been damaged. Since this switch was located at a rail yard it was close to several other tracks that were busy with traffi c. The railroad needed an experienced crew to get the switch changed out quickly and safely.
