Track Mat Installation
Hulcher Services performs track matting removal and installation as part of its line of environmental and industrial services.
In many locations where locomotives are parked and serviced, track pans collect oil, water, sand and fuel that run off during servicing and deliver the materials to oil water separator. Locations that do not have track pans must rely on polypropylene-based track mat to collect this run-off and keep it from contaminating the soil.
Track matting lays on top of the tracks and serves as an absorbent barrier for oil and other hydro-carbon liquids. The track mat is laid between the rails; in some cases, additional track matting is laid to the outside of each rail. This matting may cover 160 feet or more of track, depending on the needs of the location.
Periodically, the track mat becomes saturated, weathered and damaged from traffic and must be removed and replaced as part of the normal maintenance of the system.

- Roll up old track mat
- If the old track mat is in bad condition, covered in sand or over-saturated, use a hi-rail vacuum truck to remove the old materials from the track
- Roll out the new track mat
- Lathe and secure the track mat and nail it down every 10 feet
- Dispose of waste materials in accordance with state and federal regulations*
