Hulcher Services performs track pan cleaning as part of its line of environmental and industrial services.
Track pans are collection basins that sit beneath the tracks at rail yards or other locations where locomotives are parked and/or serviced. Track pans extend anywhere from 160 to 400 feet, and are set up individually or in pairs depending on the track configuration. The pans are used to collect the oil, water, sand and fuel that may run off the locomotive as it is serviced. The collected materials drain through several lateral drains in the pan into the inlet pipe of the oil water separator system.
Periodically, the materials in the track pan solidify and must be cleaned out as part of the normal maintenance of the system.
Hulcher’s environmental professionals perform track pan cleaning service, to include:
Track pan cleaning is frequently performed directly before oil water separator cleaning.
Hulcher’s crews are experienced with the cleaning of track pans at rail yards, locomotive service centers and other industrial facilities. Unlike many other environmental service providers, Hulcher’s crews are uniquely qualified to serve the railroads with industrial services like track pan cleaning. They are certified by all Class I railroads to work in railroad environments and are trained and experienced in railroad environments.
Hulcher’s fleet of equipment includes hi-rail vacuum trucks. All Hulcher vacuum trucks are equipped with hi-rail gear, allowing them to support projects like oil water separator cleaning in busy environments like rail yards or in locomotive service bays where off-track access is severely limited.
Our fleet also includes the pressure washer, also called the power washer because it is a powerful device for cleaning pipes, hoses and surfaces with a jet of water. The pressure washer is invaluable for jetting the lines leading into the oil water separator tank.
Track pan cleaning is often a scheduled project but may also be required in emergency situations. As a railroad contractor, Hulcher’s Customer Service Center is available 24 / 7/ 365 to take your call and can have a crew on the road within one hour of your call – any time, day or night.
Avoid clogs and backups in your track pan system and schedule periodic track pan cleanings as part of your facility maintenance schedule. Call 800-637-5471 today to learn more about track pan cleaning and all of Hulcher’s industrial and environmental services.

Case Study - Hi-Rail Vacuum Truck Performs Industrial Cleaning of Locomotive Service Terminal Work Bay A sump pump broke at a locomotive servicing terminal, allowing fluids from the engines to collect in the service bay’s trough. The customer needed a hi-rail vacuum truck to clean out the trough so the pump could be replaced. |
