Oil Water Separator Service
Hulcher Services performs oil water separator cleaning as part of its line of environmental and industrial services.
The oil / water separator is the system that processes materials collected by track pans beneath parked locomotives or from other spillage and run-off collection systems. Oil, fuel, sand and other materials flow from the track pans’ lateral drains through the inlet pipe into the separator tank. Once in the tank, oil and petroleum material floats to the top. Sand, dirt, debris, salt, rocks, wood and other materials filter to the bottom of the tank. The water separates the oil and materials, allowing for easy collection and disposal.
Periodically, as the tank fills up, the oil and other materials must be cleaned out and collected and the water must be replaced as part of the normal maintenance of the system.
Hulcher’s environmental professionals perform oil water separator cleaning service, to include:
- Pump out liquid from the separator tank
- Clean out sludge and solids from bottom with hi-rail vacuum trucks
- Rinse out filter packs and clean baffle systems
- Jet the lines coming into separator using a pressure washer with jetter chip
- Reassemble and recharge the system
- Dispose of waste materials in accordance with state and federal regulations*
Oil water separator services are frequently performed in conjunction with track pan cleaning and drain cleaning.
Hulcher’s crews clean oil water separator systems as small as 300 gallons and as large as 20,000 gallons. They are experienced with all types of oil water systems, including the larger configurations typically used by Class I railroads. Unlike many other environmental service providers, Hulcher’s crews are uniquely qualified to clean oil water separators in railroad environments. They are certified by all Class I railroads to work in railroad environments and are trained and experienced in railroad environments.
Cleaning oil water separators requires confined space entry and Hulcher’s environmental crews have all the permits and certifications, monitors, confined space equipment and safety lines to do this work as well. Hulcher crews are equipped with the PPE necessary for confined space entry, up to and including respirators, goggles and chemical protective clothing, as appropriate for the contents of the car being cleaned.
Hulcher’s fleet of equipment includes hi-rail vacuum trucks. All Hulcher vacuum trucks are equipped with hi-rail gear, allowing them to support projects like oil water separator cleaning in busy environments like rail yards where off-track access is severely limited. Our fleet also includes the pressure washer, also called the power washer because it is a powerful device for cleaning pipes, hoses and surfaces with a jet of water. The pressure washer is invaluable for jetting the lines leading into the oil water separator tank.
