Hulcher Services supports the repair of tank and drum leaks as part of its line of environmental and industrial services.
Tanks and drums can be damaged for a variety of reasons in industrial or railroad settings. A forklift can puncture a tank. Drums can become ruptured during a truck accident or train derailment. Sometimes it's difficult to determine exactly why a tank or drum starts to leak. Regardless the cause, a leaking drum or tank must be contained and the damaged container must be prepped for repair or disposal.
Hulcher's environmental crews provide crucial support for the process of responding to leaking tanks or drums. Our crews can contain the leak and plug it with calk, metal patch, or tape. They will then empty the tank or drum and transfer the product to new drum, tote or tank so it can be relocated or disposed of as is appropriate*. Once the leaking container is emptied, our crews clean it so it can be repaired by the owner's repair technician or service. If the tank is to be scrapped, our crews can perform a confined space cleaning to prepare it for shipping. Hulcher crews can also clean up the spilled product on the floor or ground around the leaking tank or drum.
Unlike many other environmental service providers, Hulcher’s crews are uniquely qualified to respond to leaking tanks and drums in railroad environments. They are certified by all Class I railroads to work and are trained and experienced with performing work at rail yards and along the Right-of-Way.
Hulcher’s environmental professionals are trained and experienced in leaking tank and drum services. The process of cleaning the drum or tank may require confined space entry and Hulcher’s environmental crews have all the permits and certifications, monitors, confined space equipment and safety lines to do this work as well. Hulcher crews are equipped with the PPE necessary for confined space entry, up to and including respirators, goggles and chemical protective clothing, as appropriate for the contents of the car being cleaned.
Hulcher’s fleet of equipment includes hi-rail vacuum trucks, which may be needed to empty a large leaking tank. All Hulcher vacuum trucks are equipped with hi-rail gear, allowing them to support projects like oil water separator cleaning in busy environments like rail yards where off-track access is severely limited. Our fleet also includes the pressure washer, also called the power washer because it is a powerful device for cleaning pipes, hoses and surfaces with a jet of water. Hulcher crews also have pumps and hand tools necessary to empty leaking tanks or drums.
Tank and drum leaks can happen at any time and often create an emergency situation that requires fast response, particularly if the situation is part of a derailment. As a railroad contractor, Hulcher’s Customer Service Center is available 24 / 7 / 365 to take your call and can have a crew on the road within one hour of your call – any time, day or night.
Hulcher’s leaking tank and drum support is just one of our industrial services for the railroads and industry. Call 800-637-5471 today to learn more about leaking tank and drum support and all of Hulcher’s industrial and environmental services.
