Hulcher Services began in 1963 as an emergency response company, specializing in derailment response for the railroads. Hulcher has since expanded its offerings to include emergency response environmental services as well. Over the years we have responded to fires, floods, explosions, derailments, natural disasters and more.

 

Hulcher responds to environmental emergencies with the same thorough professionalism that we use for natural disasters and derailments, After initial notification by a client, Hulcher:

• quickly evaluates the emergency situation,
• develops a response plan and a site-specific health and safety plan,
• dispatches the proper personnel and equipment,
• arranges for on-site delivery of required goods and materials,
• notifies the appropriate governmental agencies,
• initiates appropriate paper work,
• provides on scene coordination and direction, and
• provides overall project management to perform hazardous materials response work in compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.

Technicians who accomplish emergency response fieldwork are HAZWOPER- AND WHMIS-trained. Hulcher maintains a layered leadership team for environmental emergencies at the division and corporate level. We also have specialized sales specialists who are trained in environmental situations and can coordinate between you and our field / corporate operatives.

 

Many companies offer environmental services, but few are qualified to work in a railroad environment. Hulcher’s equipment operators are some of the best trained and most experienced railroad contractor professionals in the industry. They have received training in railroad applications, are current in safety and security certification requirements for all Class I railroads, and have spent years perfecting their craft in maintenance-of-way environments. Our fleet includes traditional heavy equipment like sidebooms, cranes, excavators, dump trucks, dozers, track loaders and wheel loaders, and more specialized hardware including the Panel Boss®, off-track undercutter, Air Spade®, grapple truck and hi-rail vacuum truck.

 

At select divisions we also maintain specialized equipment like Emergency Response Trailers and Spill Response Trailers..The trailers are equipped with the latest clean up, spill containment and air monitoring equipment for handling a wide variety of environmental chemical incidents. Some divisions also have mobile command centers, mobile dining facilities called food vans - even our own corporate jet for delivering backup and replacement crews in emergency situations.
