Structure and Building Demolition
Hulcher Services is experienced in the demolition of buildings at rail yards, along the right-of-way and on industrial properties separate from the railroad.
Hulcher's professionals can demolish an oil station, sand tower, grain silo, railroad bridge, signal tower or other structure, breaking down the building and recycling or moving the materials to landfill.
Many of these buildings have above-ground storage tanks or underground storage tanks for diesel or other fuels. Hulcher's crews can perform Fuel and oil storage tank removal from the location as part of the demolition process.
Hulcher's crews are railroad contractor professionals who are certified to work for all Class I railroads. Our crews are trained, experienced and approved to work at rail yards and along the right-of-way, allowing them to perform demolition projects without causing disruptions to normal operations.
Hulcher also performs demolition of other structures like signal towers and buildings as part of our support for the railroads' Positive Train Control PTC program efforts. Our crews work closely with the railroad's signals crews to remove these structures to make way for new towers that conform to PTC requirements and capabilities.

Case Study - Hulcher Completes Demolition of Sand Tower and Oil Filling Station
The railroad’s sand tower and adjacent oil filling station were no longer being used and had become an “eye sore” for the local residents. Rather than incurring the expense to maintain the building and tower, the railroad decided the best option was to demolish them. After a competitive bidding process, Hulcher Services was chosen for this project. |

Case Study - Hulcher Services Removes Three Diesel and Lube Oil Above-ground Storage Tanks (ASTs) From Railyard A railroad’s environmental group wanted three diesel and lube oil above-ground storage tanks (ASTs) at their storage yard to be removed. While the 63,000 gallon ASTs were no longer in use, they were still connected to fueling stations. The group also wanted the tanks’ retaining wall to be demolished to open the space for future use. |

Case Study - Hulcher Services Demolishes Signals Bridge, Cantilever and Signals Tower for Positive Train Control (PTC) Project The railroad installed new signals along a two-mile stretch of track to support Positive Train Control (PTC) when that program goes online. They needed to have an existing five-track signal bridge, cantilever and tower removed and the new signals rotated into place over the tracks. |
