The Caterpillar® dozer is an important part of Hulcher Services’ fleet of heavy equipment.
Hulcher's fleet includes the following dozers:
Hulcher’s Grader are equipped with a six-way blade for grading or clearing the site following a derailment or during a switch change. The dozers have a rear-mounted winch for moving rail cars, expanding their capabilities for railroad support.
The dozer is perfectly designed for a wide range of services, including:
Anyone who has worked with railroad contractors knows that the most important part of a dozer is the person at the stick, the operator. Hulcher’s operators are railroad specialists. They have received training in railroad applications, are current in safety and security certification requirements for all Class I railroads, and have spent years perfecting their craft in rail yards and maintenance-of-way environments. With their extensive railroad experience, our operators can work seemlessly with your rail gangs.
The Caterpillar® D5 dozer can be deployed with Hulcher's patent-pending Dozer Rake, an attachment that allows the dozer to perform ballast leveling (pictured to the right). Click here to learn more about ballast leveling with the Caterpillar® D5 dozer and the Dozer Rake.
Often deployed with dump trucks, excavators or sidebooms, the dozer can work independently or in support of rail gangs as well.

Case Study - Railroad Crossing Construction
A chronic problem for one Midwestern community was the old and worn-out railroad crossing in the center of town. The ride over the tracks was always a bumpy one and extremely hard on the vehicles that crossed it on a daily basis. The railroad was adding a siding nearby and decided they would renovate the railroad crossing at the same time. Following a bidding process, Hulcher Services Inc. was chosen to lead the railroad crossing construction project, which included removing existing crossing, grading, installing new track panel and laying asphalt. |

Case Study - Hulcher Provides Disaster Response to Simultaneous Major Flood Events Record snowfalls and spring rains resulted in major flooding throughout North Dakota. Much of the state was declared a disaster area. At the same time, a separate flood event devastated several midwest states. Railroads, local governments and industry needed a contractor with extensive, national resources, including trained crews and a fleet of heavy equipment, to respond to both flood events. |

Case Study - Grade Stabilization Project Restores Safety, Speed to Saturated Right-of-Way The railroad had a serious problem with soil saturation in various spots along a 150-mile stretch of their track across one Midwestern state. Without sufficient drainage, rain water saturated the soil under and around the rails, destabilizing the track to potentially dangerous levels. As a result the railroad was forced to reduce their trains’ speeds in this area to as little as 10 mph. In addition, the poor drainage problem began to impact neighboring farm lands, increasing the urgency for an immediate and permanent solution. |

Case Study - Hulcher Services Rehabilitates Containment System for Two Million-Gallon Above Ground Storage Tanks ASTs The railroad identified that its containment system for two one-million gallon Above Ground Storage Tanks (ASTs) used for diesel storage was out of compliance. They needed the installation of a new GCL liner and cover system, along with improvements to the storm water drainage collection and removal system inside the dike. |

Project Snapshot - Hulcher Dozer Clears Right of Way Vegetation Grass and tall brush were encroaching on a mile-long stretch of track. The railroad needed a contractor that was certified to work on their right-of-way to perform vegetation control. Hulcher responded with a Caterpillar® D5N dozer. |
